Deeper Faith

I was listening to “After the rain” , a song by Christian recording artist, Aaron Jeffery on Friday morning and a particular portion of the song stood out to me. It goes something like this: “The deeper my faith runs, the stronger I become, though the thunder may shake me I know that after the rain the clouds will give way to the light of the son.”  Here’s the youtube link to the entire song: http://youtu.be/W717Cra83qg

The Lord spoke two words to me: “Deeper faith.” I immediately got a mental picture of a tree with deep roots and the scripture below came to mind.

Psalm 1

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—  whatever they do prospers.

The key here starts in vs. 2: Our delight has to be in “the word” of God for us to be deeply rooted in Him. We build relationship with God by studying and meditating on the word of God and spending time with Him. The more we do this, the deeper our roots are in God and the stronger our faith becomes. Circumstances may come and shake us but we won’t be moved by what we see because we’re deeply rooted in what God’s word says. Some times circumstances come to cause us to trust as well but it doesn’t stop there. Not only will circumstances not be able to move us but we’ll be like it says in vs. 3 above. We’ll be firmly rooted and refreshed, yield our fruit in season and whatever we do will prosper. The deeper our roots are in God, the more He knows He can trust us. He knows that if He blesses us, those blessings won’t overshadow our focus on Him.

How deep are your roots in God today? Are they only deep enough for you seek the hand of God or are you really seeking the heart of God? Seeking the hand of God will get you no where but truly seeking the heart of God will get you His hand as well because He knows He has your heart and you’re unshakeable!

Hebrews 11:6

New International Version (NIV)

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
