Happy Thanksgiving 2014

Good morning, good people! How are y’all doing out there in cyber land? I haven’t posted in a while but today, I want to talk a little about thanksgiving. We all know the history of thanksgiving in the United states.  Some say the real story of Thanksgiving isn’t warm and fuzzy like we’ve all come to believe but God is really the only one that knows what happened in 1621 because none of us living today were present back then.

Thanksgiving, and every holiday for that matter, was a big deal growing up because of my mom. She loved the holidays, she loved people and she loved to cook. Our house was always full of people, food and laughter on holidays. If y’all are anything like she was, Thanksgiving preparations have already started, the dinner menu, the guest list, shopping for groceries that will be turned into dinner. She planned early so everything would be just right on thanksgiving day! I miss her so much.

Thanksgiving signifies the beginning of the holiday season and is generally a time of reflection. We’re often asked to say what we’re grateful for.  This thanksgiving, I’m grateful for my sister and her family but more importantly, I’m grateful for life because every day we’re alive is another opportunity to get it right.

Sure we all want a little more money in our bank accounts. I’ve found that the more money we make, the more we want. Some of us want to be married. Others want to be in the midst of fulfilling our destiny. No matter how successful we are, we can all probably name an area of our life that’s not yet fulfilled. But life is a journey & not a destination.

Every time we hit a destination in our lives, the journey for that destination begins. When you get married, the journey of your life together with your spouse begins. When you have a baby, the journey of raising that child begins. When you discover what you’re meant to do on this earth, the journey of accomplishing it begins. I honestly believe God meant for us to enjoy the journey of life rather than pining for a destination. That’s where the spirit of gratitude (a grateful heart) comes in. Be grateful for where you are in life. Learn all you can at whatever stage you’re in because it will help prepare you for your next season.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 King James Version (KJV) In every thing give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Philippians 4:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

This thanksgiving, be grateful for your life’s journey. Every day you’re alive, be grateful to God for another opportunity to get it right & get closer to a destination in your life. Practice a life of gratitude. It will make the journey of life easier to bear. Gobble Gobble y’all!
